Course Focus

To provide essential & extra items to enhance students’ English proficiency, the course is systematically designed for Upper Primary Students for SSPA.

+G* Junior Grammar Series : Parts of Speech, Different Tenses and Time Words, Infinitives & Gerunds, Adjectives of Comparison and ending in -ed & -ing, Relative clauses – that, who and where, Prepositions (Part 1 and 2)

+W* Junior Writing Series: Making compound sentences, Sentence Patterns: so and so that, Direct and Indirect (Reported) Speech, Pronouns & Reflexive pronouns, If-clauses, Adverbs, Modal Verbs, Be going to, Conjunctions, Synonyms and Opposite Words, Active and Passive Voices

+D* Junior Drill Series: Intensive Practice (Reading, Writing & Listening) to help master the language and provide advanced practice for further learning

Course Focus

Reading Skills Development:- to help primary school students develop reading skills through a variety of reading texts and practice exercises

  • to learn techniques to give answers to questions using full sentences
  • to practise identifying what or who the pronouns in a text refer to
  • to know more about different text types including emails, posters, short stories, diary entries and conversation, depending on their levels

Creative Writing Skills:-

  • Grammar, Expanding Sentences and Paragraph Development
  • Theme-based Approach with various text types to motivate students

Course Focus

This Phonetics course will introduce more specific details of English phonetics like syllabic stress, glottal stops, reductions or contractions, and emphatic stress.

  • Like the Juniors course, reading, conversation and listening practice will all be emphasized. TV and movie clips will be used for examples of the lesson’s topic.
  • Reading passages will be assigned per topic.
  • Students will practise reading and speaking while incorporating the phonetic skills learned during the lesson.
  • Other topics such as differences in English pronunciation between countries(dialects) and formal vs informal pronunciations will be discussed.

A Native Speaker Course {New Term}

for  Junior Students (Age 8 – 12)

Course Focus

Juniors (Age 8 – 12) : The course will be comprised of four components:

  • Phonetic spelling, writing, reading and conversation.
  • Each week will center on a book to be read during the class emphasizing the particular phonetic lesson of the week.
  • The first two lessons might focus on the sound “th” vs. “f” and “v.” The comic book “Thor” could be read during class to highlight the phonetic sound of the week.
  • In addition to reading, spelling and pronunciation practice, clips from movies and cartoons will be used for listening practice, especially clips from movie and TV adaptations of the book of the week.
